Brett McCormick Update: Full Recovery Expected
Brett McCormick, who fractured two vertebrae in the huge crash he suffered on Sunday at Assen, will make a full recovery, according to updates on the Canadian's website posted by his father last night and earlier today. McCormick is recovering well, and will be moved to either Italy or Canada, before being assessed whether any surgery is required to stabilize his fractured vertebrae. Below is the update posted on McCormick's website:
Monday, April 23, 2012
We are still at Assen hospital, but Brett will be able to transport in a day or two.
We will then travel to Italy and/or home to Canada.
If Brett requires surgery it will be at that time.
He's in good spirits and Lucca (engineer) is with us.
Thanks again for all the positive support!
Brett really appreciates it!!!
Grant.

2012 WSBK Assen QP2: Wet, wet, wet
Riders who were able to bank a fast lap yesterday will head off to Superpole and those who missed out will be regretting the fact they didn't get off the mark quickly enough. Yesterday's rains were no surprise as the radar system warned of rain at 15:30 local time, which is why everybody was out immediately trying to put in a 'banker' before conditions got too dangerous for slicks. Today's session was all about finding wet settings.
The big names missing out on Superpole are Max Biaggi and Hiroshi Aoyama who will start from the fifth and sixth rows respectively. It remains to see if Zanetti will be allowed to race as he was outside the 107% required, but Race Direction may allow him to continue at their discretion.

Points leader Checa prepares for Dutch action
Championship leader Carlos Checa (Althea Racing) is all set to return to the historic TT circuit of Assen, where round 3 of the World Superbike Championship is taking place this coming weekend.
Ducati’s home track of Imola was the setting for Round 2 of the championship, which took place just over a fortnight ago. Carlos could not have done better in front of what he considers to be his adoptive home crowd, beating off competition, in the form of Sykes on the Kawasaki, to power his Ducati 1198 to a double win, and 50 precious championship points.
Last year at Assen, Carlos celebrated success with a race win and a third place finish so both the rider and team will be hoping for similar results at this particular circuit, well aware that other, trickier tracks for the Ducati are looming.
Carlos Checa: “Imola was a really fantastic event that couldn’t have gone better for me! I’m really happy with how it went, also because those points gained are vital for the championship. Now we must turn our attentions to Assen, where I hope to make two strong races before we head to Monza – that will undoubtedly be more difficult for the Ducati. Last year we did well at the TT circuit, a win and a third place – we’ll be aiming for similar results again this time around.”

2012 Assen World Supersport FP2 Results: Drying track favours Lanzi
Weekend favourites Sam Lowes and Broc Parkes were the first riders to make an impression on the wet track, but as the session went on, it got drier, throwing some unfamiliar names to the top of the leader board. Lorenzo Lanzi was the man who put in fast times, lap after lap, at the end of the session while Lowes managed to remind us he's fast, wet or dry.

“Then I was touched by Hector Barbera and got me off the track. I lost five to six seconds. But I still stick with the rider in the group,” he continued.
